Hey lovely people! Starting this Friday (3rd April 2020), will be sharing – Nanchi’s Fun Facts Friday, in which I will be posting a favourite shot from my clicks and also some points related to the photograph. Feel free to add inputs or information related to the post.
The post will be helpful for us to imbibe some information of the locations and get to learn something new every week! What say?
So, here is the first picture…..
Fun Facts:
- Hawa Mahal or the Palace of Winds, located in the Pink City, Jaipur.
- What you see and think the front, in reality, is the back side of the Hawa Mahal!
- Built in 1799.
- Designed by Lal Chand Ustad.
- Unique 5 floor exterior has honeycomb sort of 953 small windows called “Jharokhas”
- Jharokhas were made for the Royal Ladies to observe the daily life and festivals on the streets without being seen!
- The top two floors are accessed only through ramps.

I loved visiting Hawa Mahal. The architecture was indeed well thought of and ahead of its times, designed for optimum comfort of the residents (the Royal Family of course).
Thank you Madam for explaining about the other facts of the place. I didn’t know them previously.
It’s quite mysterious how the architects of the late eighteenth century were able to visualize something unique called “Jharokhas” and not relying on glass to do the job. So unique they are, aren’t they?

Yes, I too like Hawa Mahal. I am always in awe with the precision, vision and honesty in work of people of that time. Hats off! I assume since Jaipur is a hot location, they wanted cool breeze hence for cross ventilation these jharokhas were made. Glass wouldn’t have done the job. There were no A.Cs, Coolers or Fans at that time so they could only rely on the natural air, hence Jharokhas.
I live in Pune, Maharashtra. It is not only about Rajasthan but I try to gain as much information as I can, about the location I visit, so that the information can be shared for my readers and at the same time I also upgrade my knowledge…:) Who doesn’t love knowing new things…Right!?

You are right Madam. Glass would have been detrimental given the hot weather of Rajasthan.

Had gone to attend a wedding there and was to spend a few days after that for sight seeing. But I got flu and returned immediately after the wedding 😌

The perfect choice for photogenic Friday!!! Jaipur has so many beautiful sights…I always thought this was the front of the Hawa Mahal too!! 🤗

Aaah Nice! Where all did you travel then in Jaipur? Did you check my Bhangarh post (the most haunted place in India) ? Yes, if you haven’t explored, go for the haunted Bhangarh Fort. 😀
