I am sure this has happened to you a lot of times. We travel a lot but usually miss exploring our neighbourhood. Such is the place which I will share with you today in Nanchi’s Fun Facts Friday. In 2010, I read about this place in the newspaper and didn’t want to miss the chance to explore this ancient temple right in the middle of the city. One of its kind, the temple is named as Trishund Ganpati Temple in Somwar Peth, Pune. You can also check the 48-hours in Pune and add this to your list.

Let us begin with the fun facts

  • The construction of this temple started in 1754 by Bhimjigiri Gosavi and completed in 1770.
  • There are 3 inscriptions on the walls of the sanctum of the temple – Two in Devnagari in Sanskrit language and one in Persian language.
  • The rare depiction of Lord Ganesha is seen here with three trunks and six hands seated on a peacock.
  • The temple also has a basement with inlet water hence always filled with water.
  • The basement is open to the public only once in a year on Guru Purnima.
  • The architecture construction style is a mix of Rajasthani, Malwa and South Indian Styles.

      1. The temple entrance is really beautiful. The inconspicuous, olden temples in the neighborhood have very powerful divine energies and have a lot of history behind them.

        Is this the only Mayureshvara temple? According to Ganesh purana, Ganeshji has four incarnation. This one is of the Tetra Yuga. He gave the peacock to his brother Kartikeya or Murugan or Skanda in the end of this incarnation. We associate the peacock more with him, right.
